"Mathematics is the knowledge with which God has written the universe" - Galileo.

The importance of Mathematics has never been greater than now and for the foreseeable future. Mathematical skills are crucial for a wide array of analytical, technological, scientific, economic and soft skill applications. Training students to become adept users of Mathematics and to appreciate its usefulness is of paramount importance for the future.

The celebration of GANIT (Growing Aptitude in Numerical and Innovations Training) week , an initiative of CBSE commemorating SrinivasaRamanujan's birth anniversary, had a distinct flavor at D.A.V International School Ahmedabad, when hands came together , showcasing the diverse activities and competitions in numeracy. Students participated in large numbers, displaying spirited enthusiasm, absorbing information and enjoying the stimulating exercise of the mind.

To encourage young learners to get involved, to dispel Math phobia and create a love for the subject, to percieve the connection of mathematical concepts with real life situations, were the primary objectives of the GANIT celebrations that was in perfect sync with the objectives of our very own Zero_Zero Club . The resounding success of the celebrations is the outcome of tireless efforts put in by the resource team comprising of students and Maths Faculty, ably guided by the Math teachers and well supported by the school management.

Math Musings - High School students in rapt attention

The inauguration of the week long celebrations kicked off with a lecture by eminent mathematician Mrs. Anju Mehendroo. She urged the young learners to look around with an encouraging approach to Maths by making connections with real life, thereby triggering their interest in the subject.

17-12-2014: Activity - Essay Writing competition

An essay writing competition  on following topics  was held in the school premises with the help of teachers  in which more than 200 students from Class IX and X actively participated in the competition.


 Topic :- 1. Contribution of Ramanujan in the field of mathematics

               2.Maths gives you wings

               3. Algebra is fun

               4. Numerical innovations in India


18/12/2014: Activity - Quiz Competition

A Quiz on Mathematics was conducted for classes VII and VIII was held on 18/12/2014. The quizzing was of high standard and elicited an enthusiastic response from the participants and the audience alike. This was a non-routine way of getting learners involved in math activities.

22-12-2014: Activity - Origami and Poster making Competition

Origami.Innovations in 2-D and 3-D – Origami.was held wherein students of V and VI participated enthusiastically and made different shapes. A poster competition was also held for the students of V and VI on the following topics with the help of teachers.

  1. Maths  is all fun and games
  2. Maths builds Brains
  3. Manipulatives

We thank the Central Board of Secondary Education for their initiative in creating a platform through GANIT, for young minds to enjoy and share mathematical skills by actively participating in the activities.
