Mahatma Hans Raj Blood Donation Camp 2014

Mahatma Hansraj an Indian educationist and follower of Arya Samaj was born on 19th April 1864 in a village of Punjab. He was an ardent follower of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Three years after the death of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, in 1886 Mahatma Hansraj started the first DAV school at Lahore. Mahatma Hansraj breath his last on 14th Novenber 1938.

                           To pay homage to Mahatma Hansraj on his 76th death anniversary a blood donation camp was organized on Saturday the 15th of November 2014, at DAV International School Ahmedabad, with the help of Indian Red Cross Society Ahmedabad district branch. It begun at around 10.30am and continued upto 2.30pm, with a steady stream of donors through out.

                            The activity room of the school was utilized for a through medical checkup of potential donors as well as the donation itself. The donors could lie down and recuperate for a while before they left the venue. They were provided with ORS-orange juice and food including biscuits, wafers etc. It was great to see the enthusiasm of the people. A total of 137 donors were there out of which 76 units of blood was collected as the other 61 donors were rejected due to one or other reasons. The blood was collected in two different measures, 350ml and 450ml respectively. The parents, teachers and the staff were eagerly waiting for their turn to donate blood. The samples were carefully sealed and transported away by the Indian Red Cross Society- Ahmedabad district branch. Throughout the morning there were smiles and laughter all around- a true embodiment of what we believe in- selfless service with the smile.

                             The donors received “Sherdil Blood Donor Card” and also will be given a certificate of recognition by the Indian Red Cross Society- Ahmedabad district branch.
